The city of Bariloche is located in the southernmost part of the Americas within the state of Argentina in a region called "Patagonia". The city of Bariloche has less than 100,000 inhabitants and a very small number of local Jews. The city of Bariloche was founded by Germans in 1902 and for this reason after World War II a large number of Nazi German war criminals were absorbed into the city. The city also has a comprehensive German education system from kindergarten to university. The Chabad House is in contact with a few dozen Jewish families in the city. Many times, families who try their luck in the city come and return to Buenos Aires after a few months because of the many difficulties in the periphery.
Because it is the southernmost Chabad house, it is the responsibility of the Chabad house to take care of and send food, Haggadot, bechurim, etc. to several additional locations that are hundreds of kilometers away from the city in small towns spread from Bariloche south to the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia. The Chabad house of Bariloche hosts tens of thousands of traveling Jews every year and provides material and spiritual help to every Jew. Every Shabbat evening during the season, hundreds of Jews gather in the courtyard of the Chabad house to eat and sing Shabbat songs together. The highlights of the holidays in Bariloche are difficult to describe in words. And pictures don't really convey what happens. Hundreds of participants in the Tishrei holidays make atonement meals and prayers. Thousands celebrate the mitzvah of Hanukkah all week, with the highlight each year being the lighting of the main menorah, with donuts, music and dancing in the center of the Nazi city. Hundreds of people in costume listen to the Megillah and celebrate the holiday of Purim with a great feast. And of course, on Passover, thousands of participants in the holiday feasts receive matzah and the only kosher Passover food within hundreds of kilometers!
Sometimes the Chabad House has to deal with less pleasant cases of travelers who have been lost on the treks, all that is stolen from them or suffer from all kinds of phenomena due to drug use. Because the Chabad House is far from any community and certainly from any embassy Chabad. Beyond the usual things that are in the "Chabad House for Travelers" such as - kosher restaurant, Shabbat meals - Shabbat reception Minyanim Prayers, lessons and certifications at Beit Chabad There are also services that aim to attract Jews who are not looking for spirituality. And for the whole area .. which really attracts almost all the travelers who pass through the city because every visit to the Chabad house and receiving this or that information will save the traveler money, time and also make the trip itself more successful ... :-)
